I just got my hands on a new review rifle, supplied by the distributor Tasco Sales Australia.  It is a Weatherby Vanguard varmint rifle in 223 Remington.  It is topped with a Bushnell Trophy Xtreme X30 6-24×50 scope.  The combination should make for an excellent varmint rig.

I will handload some of my favourite accurate 223 Rem projectiles, starting with 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips and Swift Sirocco II 62 grainers.  I will also run some of my favourite factory ammo through the Vanguard as well.

Over Easter I will strip the rifle down for photography and then set it up with the correct action and scope mount screw tension.  Next Wednesday will be the first range day.  I look forward to reporting on progress.

It might take a few range days, but once I have an accurate load for a suitable premium projectile then a’hunting I will go!
